The Panther ready to strike

JACANLEE – The Panther is ready to meet its prey at the IBO African super middleweight title fight.

Local super middleweight boxer, Patrick ‘The Panther’ Mukala is poised to strike at an upcoming title fight.

The 25-year-old boxer from Jacanlee will fight Rowan Campbell for the International Boxing Association (IBO) African title at Emperors Palace on 23 August.

Mukala and Campbell both have excellent records in their professional careers. Mukala has had 11 wins out of 13 fights, with 10 knockouts and one draw. Campbell has won all 10 of his professional fights, with six knockouts.

Campbell is the current holder of the title and is also the South African super middleweight champion.

Mukala has won the World Boxing Association Pan African title before, so this would be another star on his CV if he was to win.

“I am expecting a win,” Mukala told Randburg Sun between training sessions at Randburg Boxing Club.

“I will be the new champion of Africa. I have been a champion in my category before. I have trained like a champion so I am more than ready.”

Mukala’s coach of six years, Ashley Fourie said Campbell was not in the same class as Mukala.

“I have always said Patrick has been a world champion. I have never seen someone so talented and so dedicated,” Fourie boasted of his fighter.

“He trains just as hard when I am watching and when I am not.”

Fourie only wishes to plan further fights for Mukala once the outcome of this fight is determined.

If Mukala wins, Fourie will seek international fights that could take Mukala towards a world title fight.

Mukala confessed that when he grew up in the Democratic Republic of the Congo he participated in street fighting.

“My classmates at school got me into boxing and I liked it. I have never done street fighting since, I am disciplined now.”
