Young, female, Randburg boxer wins first fight with a KO
After a long wait, 19-year-old Tyla Promnick had an unforgettable first professional fight, knocking out the undefeated Simamkele Genu in the fourth round.
The high of the night still has not worn off for female fighter Tyla Promnick (19) who recently won her first professional fight against undefeated Simamkele Genu at Emperors Palace.
Coming out of the highly rated Alan Toweel Boxing Gym in Randburg, Promnick won her debut bout with a fourth-round knockout (KO) making her name known in the female boxing world.

Toweel described Promnick as a crowd pleaser, and that he is certain she will be a game changer for female boxing in South Africa. “She started as a client of mine 4 years ago. Since that time, she has participated in three white-collar events, three amateur fights and now she is a professional fighter. In 100 years of boxing history in my family, I am proud to mention that I am the first Toweel to train a female professional fighter.”
Promnick explained that she is overwhelmed by the outpour of support from the community, as well as her team. “I had waited for the opportunity to prove myself in the ring for quite some time. I honestly could not have asked more from myself in that moment.”

Promnick continued that she is proud of coming out with the win, as well as the KO, but regardless of the outcome of the fight, what she was most proud of was her mentality before, during, and after the fight. “The usual pre-fight nerves were long anticipated, considering the circumstances and hype surrounding the fight. However, the only thing that settled into my gut was determination, excitement, and, yes, a few butterflies, which was to be expected, but I have never been so locked in and ready for what was to come.”

After such a dream introduction, the young boxer promises to give every single part of herself to the sport. “All I can say is that it is such an honour and a privilege to have been given the opportunity. You won’t get a person who wants this more than I do, and with the Lords will, and my team in my corner, I will continue to push down barriers, continue to love the sport with every fibre in my body.”
The win was a big confidence booster for Promnick and her team, and it was proof that hard works pays. “This is the first time I have no doubt in my mind that this is where I’m meant to be, and this is what is written in the stars for my future. Fighting an undefeated opponent and winning via KO has definitely given me a boost of confidence, but you can never underestimate anyone. I am confident in my own abilities to make it to the top but will continue to work hard to prove that to be true.”
She added that she will continue to work hard with her team and create a name for herself in the boxing world. “I will give my everything to this, my heart, body, and my mind. I will continue to rise through the ranks, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.”
