Rand Park Primary hosts a successful annual interhouse swimming gala

It was an action-packed day celebrating talent, teamwork and victory at the Rand Park Primary annual interhouse swimming gala.

Two records were broken at the Rand Park Primary annual interhouse swimming gala as houses battled it out for the number one spot.

The school was buzzing with excitement and cheers as the learners screamed for their houses, and the swimmers gave it their all. The school’s sports coordinator, Nica Stadtlander, said the gala was a huge success, with two records broken and the most amazing dress-up costumes that she has ever seen.

Kenzie Adelaine set a new U12 girls 50m freestyle record, and Jorja Adelaine set a new U13 girls 50m freestyle record, earning her the Senior Victrix Ludorum award.

Lincoln Swanepoel received the Senior Victor Ludorum award, Levi Shilleto bagged the Junior Victor Ludorum award, and Taylor Oberholzer took home the Junior Victrix Ludorum award.

Stadtlander added, “The house captains and cheer leaders really come together with amazing costumes, and we were all hyped on the day. The gala is also the best way for new learners, as well as their parents, to see what Rand Park is all about.”

She said that camaraderie and spirit are what draw all learners to participate in school sports. “The school has spirit come rain or shine; the staff, learners and coaches go all out at sporting events. Everyone was so excited to join in, and our all-comers race had every single learner from grade 1 to grade 7 in the pool swimming their lap to earn their house a point.”

Stadtlander concluded that every year, the gala just gets better and better, with its amazing costumes and team spirit. “The juniors and seniors compete for the trophies and, of course, break records. Every swimmer did their utmost best in the pool to compete against their friends and to show off to the crowd.”

The results were as follows:

  • 1st – Falcons.
  • 2nd – Eagles.
  • 3rd – Hawks.
  • 4th – Ravens

The spirit trophy went to the Ravens, and the best-dressed house went to the Hawks.
