Old Parktonian ladies bowl for charity in full-house event

Randburg's Old Parktonian Bowling Club raised funds and donated essential items for residents of the Rhea Foundation during its annual Sheila Fox ladies charity morning.

The Old Parktonian Bowling Club hosted a full house of 72 players for its annual Sheila Fox ladies charity morning, with this year’s proceeds going to the Rhea Foundation, a non-profit organisation that cares for people living with epilepsy and neurological conditions.

Club member Eileen Brakey said the event had been running for a number of years and each year a different charity is nominated as the beneficiary.

“This year our charity is the Rhea Foundation, which is a facility that cares for people with epilepsy and neurological disorders,” Brakey said. “We are just trying to make life a little easier or sweeter for them.”

Alongside the entry fees, all players and visitors were asked to bring donated items for the residents of the care facility.

A portion of the entry fee proceeds will be handed over to the Rhea Foundation once organisers have tallied the funds and confirmed the facility’s specific needs.

Brakey said she was delighted with the turnout on the day, which was also helped along by fine weather.

“The turnout has been terrific. We had a full house of 72 players, which is wonderful, and weather-wise it was a lovely day,” she said. “I am just hoping all the players have had a good morning.”
