DA calls win in Ward 99, thanks residents and pledges to continue getting things done
LINDEN – The ward covers Linden, much of Blairgowrie and surrounding areas.
DA councillor, Nicole van Dyk has retained Ward 99 at this year’s local government elections, according to the party’s calculations.
This after the preliminary vote count for the ward was completed the morning after elections (apparently by 06:30 on November 2 already), and party agents said they found the majority win for the DA too great for a re-count to change the winner.
“My Ward had a low turnout of voters but that was a problem nationally,” Van Dyk, who will likely serve her second term, told Caxton Local Media.
“I want to say thank you to my residents, who must have seen the work I have been doing and appreciate it. The first thing I want to do is change the tone of the work service providers and entities do for residents. Too often when there is lack of service delivery the ward councillor has to make statements to the public on the entity’s behalf. We cannot keep doing that as there are people paid by City Power and other entities to notify the public about updates to service delivery. I want to help residents make entities accountable for their work, and open communication with them.”
The IEC has not verified the results of this ward. Preliminary results are based on the work of party agents at the vote count, and their political parties in determining acceptable margins at which to call a win initially.
