Eikenhof power outage puts Rand West water supply under pressure

The municipality says it is engaging with Rand Water while residents are urged to prepare for possible interruptions.

Residents in Libanon, Westonaria and surrounding communities have been urged to prepare for possible water shortages following a complete power outage at Rand Water’s Eikenhof Booster Station.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) issued an urgent customer notice on Monday, informing residents that the booster station experienced a power outage at approximately 17:20 on Sunday, August 23.

The station receives its electricity supply from City Power, whose technicians are currently investigating the cause of the outage.

According to RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, there is currently no estimated time for the restoration of the electricity supply. As a result, the Rand Water reservoirs supplying Libanon, Westonaria and surrounding communities are expected to deplete, potentially resulting in reduced water pressure or a complete interruption of water supply until the system is restored and reservoir levels recover.

Montshiwa said the municipality remains in continuous engagement with Rand Water and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

Residents are encouraged to use water sparingly and, where possible, store enough water for essential household needs during the disruption.
