A 16-year-old Wheatlands boy is in hot water after shooting and killing a pit bull dog belonging to another resident, with a bow and arrow on 12 June in Wheatlands.
According to the owner of the dog, Braam Swanepoel, the dog was in his driveway when the incident occurred.
“I did not witness the incident.
“I was surprised to be called by my gardener alleging that a young boy shot my dog with a bow and an arrow.
“I immediately rushed to the driveway and when I arrived there, my dog was bleeding to death,” says Swanepoel.
He adds that he immediately rushed the dog to the SPCA where he was also advised to contact the SAPS.
“I don’t understand how someone can do something so cruel.
“I have opened a case against the boy and police are currently investigating the matter,” says Swanepoel.
He adds that the dog did not provoke the boy and alleges that this is not the first time that the boy has done something like this.
He continues to say that the 16-year-old in question is a bow and arrow sportsman and that he has shot at other dogs previously..
Lucy Philips from Randfontein SPCA says that the act constitutes animal cruelty, which is a criminal offense.
“People cannot go around killing animals like that and we definately do not condone it.”
