Pick n Pay workers strike over pay dispute
They blocked the shop's entrance with trolleys.
Pick n Pay workers in Westonaria staged massive strike outside the shop on 31 July
They blocked the entrance with trolleys, preventing customers from entering the shop.
According to one of the workers, Abraham Sebeko, the strike comes as a result of having had more than half of their salaries deducted for no apparent reason.
“Management just suddenly decided to cut our salaries and we obviously are frustrated by this.
“We feel that they do not have the right to do this. As it stands we are earning peanuts.
“And now even it is even less with this salary cut,” says Sebeko.
He adds that he together with his colleagues will not back down until management addresses their outcries in the form of compensation.
Meanwhile, the shop closed its doors for the day, owing to the disruption outside the premises.
The Herald has tried to contact the shop’s management but they were not immediately available for comment.
