Female officers embark on road block ahead of Women’s Day
We too can strengthen law enforcement.
The Westonaria Traffic Department together with the Westonaria SAPS embarked on a massive roadblock on 16 August.
According to Westonaria SAPS spokesperson Thembi Masango this is in line with their efforts to commemorate Women’s month which is celebrated throughout August.
“As female officers, we want to increase our visibility throughout Westonaria and its surrounds.
“We want people to know that female officers are very much capable of running a successful road block without any assistance.
“It is time that people stop looking down on women; especially those of the law.
“We too can strengthen law enforcement,” says Masango.
At the roadblock, the women in uniform conducted stop-and-searches on numerous vehicles in the area.
Owing to this, motorists were slapped with heavy traffic fines for car defects and for breaking the law.
According to Masango, this isn’t the last of their initiatives this Women’s Month.
“We are yet to embark on other initiatives aimed at empowering not only us as female officers but the women in our communities as well,” says Masango.
