Johnny Meyer laid to rest
He died a brutal death after he was gunned down in his driveway on 13 August.
More than 200 people attended the funeral of the late Johnny Meyer to pay their last respects on 20 August at the NG Kerk in Helikon Park.
Among those who attended were his friends and colleagues who spoke highly of the late Meyer.
The church was filled to capacity with grieving friends, colleagues and family members, who openly wept during the service.
Meyer died a brutal death after he was gunned down in his driveway on 13 August.
He was shot by one of five suspects who followed him home after he and his wife had withdrawn a large amount of money at a local bank.
At the time of the incident, Meyer who was in the passenger seat got out of the vehicle at the gate to retrieve a copy of the Randfontein/ Westonaria Herald newspaper in the postbox while his wife parked the car in the yard.
He was then confronted by a suspect who shot him in the head.
A chopper was called out to the scene to airlift him to Milpark Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
“Johnny was a good man,” says one co-worker. “I cannot believe that he was taken from his family in this way.
“He never had a bad thing to say about anyone, and for this to happen to him… it’s just wrong.”
