The Matric Portal has been designed to model the South African syllabis for all of the subjects offered within the school system with one goal in mind, to help Grade 12 pupils with additional information and help during their most important academic career.
The Matric Portal includes additional information such as online virtual textbooks, past year examination papers, notes capture facilities, two way communication in the form of live chat, career guidance, aptitude and personality assessments as well as bursary information.
According to the creator of this portal, Pravin Maharaj, videos, animations, simulations and educational games are all factors that will be implemented in the portal soon.
Renowned organisations, including the Nobel Peace Price Organization, the Discovery Network of Education, the Mark Shuttleworth Foundation, Khans Academyn Mathematics Foundation and the universities of Minnesota, Colorado and Virginia in the USA have all contributed content and resources to this initiative.
Further contributions from the South African and Australian governments have also been welcomed as well as from organisations in Russia, India, Germany and Taiwan.
It truly represents a modern day miracle tool to assist all South African students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 and it is envisaged that, the click generation, will find it a boon with its forthcoming reservoir of learning resources and tools.
“Excel Learning Publishers have been commissioned to write several textbooks for the portal and we anticipate the delivery of free textbooks for Accounting, Business Studies, English, Afrikaans, Mathematics and Physical Science tailored to the South African High School environment,” says Pravin.
The most exciting new service to the portal is that of the Career Aptitude and Personality Tests. Pupils will be able to complete a battery of 13 tests, which will then be processed to determine their personality types and careers best suited to their specific personalities and aptitudes.
The entire Matric Portal is open and free to all pupils.
