Make your own beer cocktails this festive season

Impress all your guests this festive season by making your own beer cocktails.

The South African culture of beer has evolved over recent years with the explosion of craft beer brewing and beer-food pairing.

The South African Breweries (SAB) and LiquidChefs Mobile Bar Services created a number of delicious beer cocktails that are easy to make and low in alcohol content.

Perfect for a hot African summer day, try them out and wow your guests this festive season.

The first cocktail is the Castle deLite. For this cocktail you will need one bottle of Castle Lite, elderflower and honey foam, a piece of lemon zest and Brutal Fruit Lavascious Lemon.

This cocktail should be served in a wine class.

In order to prepare this cocktail, make foam by placing 25ml honey, 25ml Elderflower Syrup and 12,5ml Brutal Fruit Lavascious Lemon into a shaker or bowl with 1 egg white. Whisk or shake the above ingredients together to aerate.

Pour the lite beer into the wine glass. Spoon or pour over the foam onto the lite beer and garnish with a piece of lemon zest.

The second cocktail that you can make is the Milk Stout Medley.

For this cocktail you will need eight Raspberries, 12,5ml Vanilla Syrup, one bottle of Castle Milk Stout, one bottle of Brutal Fruit Cranberry and ground nutmeg.

This cocktail should be served in a brandy snifter glass.

To make this cocktail, firstly place raspberries and vanilla syrup into a glass. Using a muddler/pestle press the raspberries and syrup together. Add cubed ice and Brutal Fruit Cranberry to the glass and stir slowly to infuse the flavours into the liquid.

Pour Castle Milk Stout into brandy snifter and strain raspberries, syrup and Brutal Fruit into brandy snifter filled with the beer. Lastly, garnish the cocktail with a dusting of Nutmeg on top.

The Miller Summer Storm is the third cocktail option you can experiment with.

For this cocktail, you will need 12 mint leaves, 25ml honey, 50ml pineapple Juice, a dash of lemon, one bottle Miller Genuine Draft and mint sprig.

This cocktail should be served in a stemmed pilsner glass.

To prepare this drink, place mint leaves and honey into a mixing glass or cocktail shaker. Press mint and honey using a muddler/pestle. Add cubed ice, pineapple juice and a dash of lemon juice into the glass and stir to infuse flavours together. Pour Miller Genuine Draft into stemmed glass and strain the infused liquid over the beer. To top it all off, garnish the drink with a mint sprig.

The last cocktail idea is the Black Label Fusion. Which should be served in a hurricane glass.

To make this drink you will need two basil leaves, two slices of ginger, one sprig of thyme, salt, pepper, a dash of sugar syrup, 100ml Redd’s Dry, a dash of bitters, one bottle Carling Black Label and a thyme sprig.

To prepare this drink, place the ginger into a glass and bash slightly with muddler/ pestle. Add basil leaves, thyme, salt and pepper to the glass. Add sugar syrup to the herbs and press using a muddler/ pestle. Add cubed ice and 100ml Redd’s and stir to infuse the flavours. Pour Carling Black Label into Hurricane glass and pour herb infusion on top. Garnish with a thyme sprig and top off with a dash of bitters.
