Riebeeckrand shows grit despite tough results against Wagpos

Hoërskool Riebeeckrand faced a challenging day against Die Hoërskool Wagpos, with a handful of close contests and standout performances offering glimpses of promise despite the overall results.

Hoërskool Riebeeckrand endured a challenging but competitive day on the rugby field against Die Hoërskool Wagpos, with a full fixture list showcasing both resilience and determination across all age groups.

The junior teams found the going particularly tough, with the U14B side suffering a heavy 55–0 defeat, while the U14A team narrowly missed out in a heartbreaking 8–7 loss. The U15B team also struggled, going down 45–0, but the U15A side showed grit to secure a hard-fought 7–7 draw.

In the U16 division, the B team battled bravely to a 17–17 stalemate, while the U16A team delivered one of Riebeeckrand’s standout performances of the day, claiming a strong 20–15 victory.

Mixed fortunes continued in the senior ranks. The third team fell 36–5, but the second team impressed with a convincing 36-14 win. The first team, however, could not overcome a powerful Wagpos outfit, going down 41–17 despite moments of promise.

While the results leaned in favour of Wagpos overall, the day reflected the fighting spirit of Riebeeckrand’s players, with several tightly contested matches and notable performances highlighting the team’s potential. The fixture also celebrated the camaraderie and sportsmanship between the two schools, underlining that school rugby is about more than just the final score.
