Tool thieves stopped in their tracks

Suspects found with backpack filled with tools.

On Tuesday 10 November at 2.15am, Special Operations Solution (SOS) Tactical Task Force Officer, Jaco Calitz, followed and caught two suspects behind the Connie Joubert Bird Park.

Calitz explained to the Herald he was busy patrolling the area when he saw two suspicious men walking in Somerset Street with a brown backpack.

Keeping an eye on them until Desert Street the duo then decided to start running. Calitz then followed them but lost them when they jumped over a fence at the Connie Joubert Bird Park. The officer then proceeded to Aasvoël Street where he waited for them.

When they saw him, they once again ran away where he again followed them. He eventually caught up with one of the suspects who was hiding between the reeds. He then confiscated the brown backpack.

Inside the backpack Calitz discovered several tools. The suspect then showed Calitz where the other suspect was hiding and they were both apprehended and handed over to the Randfontein Police.

The Herald is awaiting comment from the Randfontein Police.
