JUST IN: 14 killed in horror truck, taxi crash

The road is closed due to the collision and traffic is heavily affected in the area

Fourteen people have been killed and two others injured after a large truck and taxi collided head-on on Randfontein Road in Randfontein on Friday.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, received the emergency call and immediately responded to the scene.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, “On arrival, paramedics found both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the intersection. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision and had been completely ripped open.

“On inspection, paramedics found numerous bodies lying around on the scene that had been ejected from the taxi. On assessment, paramedics discovered that 14 people had sustained fatal injuries in the collision. They were all declared dead on the scene.

“Two other patients were found on scene with serious injuries. They were treated and provided with advanced life support interventions. The road is closed due to the collision and traffic is heavily affected in the area.”

Local authorities are on scene for further investigations.
