Landfill mob murder one man, badly injure another

'The reason for this assault and ultimate murder is under investigation'

A man aged 30 was recently murdered during a mob justice incident at the Randfontein Landfill Site.

The incident took place on 11 October at approximately 3pm, said Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson.

Ernst said police officers were called to the Landfill Site and upon arrival, found two men being badly assaulted with stones, sticks and knobkerries.

She added that the police managed to end the brutal assault but discovered their intervention came too late for one of the victims, as he had already passed away.

The other victim was badly injured and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

“The reason for this assault and ultimate murder is under investigation,” Ernst said.

The Randfontein Police are now requesting the assistance of the community regarding the matter. They urge anyone with any information about the murder to contact the Randfontein Detectives Office on 011 278 8100.
