Assailant shoots and kills man at tavern

Police are now requesting assistance in tracing the suspect.

A 31-year-old man was recently killed in a shooting at a local tavern.

The shooting took place on Lemeko Street, Mohlakeng on 12 November, at approximately 11.10pm, said Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson.

After the police were called to the scene, they were informed that one man, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital, had been injured in the shooting. When enquiries were made at the hospital, it was discovered that the victim had been declared dead before any further medical treatment could be administered.

The shooting is believed to have resulted from a fight between the victim and his assailant. After the incident, the assailant fled the scene.

Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker is investigating the matter and is requesting community assistance in tracing the suspect, who is believed to still be in the Mohlakeng area. Duiker can be contacted on 011 278 8100.
