Law enforcement officers in the West Rand Cluster made 297 arrests last week.
Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson said that suspects were arrested for numerous serious offences such as rape, robbery, kidnapping, housebreaking and theft, assault with intent to do great bodily harm as well as domestic related assaults.
In a Wedela murder, a most wanted suspect was arrested following a murder last year in which he killed his girlfriend. The community provided information and the detectives successfully arrested the man in KwaMashu.
“In Randfontein the cooperation between units and stations, resulted in the arrest of three suspects who robbed a tobacco company vehicle. The robbed goods were also recovered and the accused were charged for robbery in the Carletonville area.”
Ernst added that liquor related and drug related offences were also policed and successes in these crimes were also achieved. A number of people were also arrested for driving offences and undocumented foreign nationals.
Major General Anna Mateisi, the West Rand Cluster Commander expressed her satisfaction with the number of arrests.
“Our ‘no nonsense’ approach is evident in the number of arrests that were effected in the week. We will keep on ensuring the safety of our residents in the West Rand Cluster,” Major General Mateisi said.
