While the opening of the Randgate Clinic is welcomed by some, the DA Constituency Head for Mogale City, Alan Fuchs, said questions need to be asked.
He said despite the Gauteng MEC for Health, Gwen Ramokgopa signing a memorandum of understanding ensuring “that government is transparent and answerable to the communities it serves,” there was little transparency when opening the two-year-overdue clinic.
He said the Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development, Jacob Mamabolo was less than transparent about the matter.

Fuchs emphasised that it took three contractors to complete the clinic, as well as the fact that the cost of completing the project has ballooned since its inception. He called the latter “wasting limited public funds”.
“The question that must be asked is whether the Department of Infrastructure Development failed to exercise its responsibility in choosing contractors with the requisite skills, or whether the contracts were awarded to ‘connected’ companies,” Fuchs explained.
He said the waste of scarce public resources cannot be condoned. “The DA will continue to monitor public sector infrastructure projects to ensure that they are completed on time, within budget and with the requisite quality levels,” he said.
