Road entering town ‘dangerous and unsafe’

Councillor on state of the road and issue of trucks when entering Randfontein in this weeks #ThrowBackThursday.

In this weeks #ThrowbackThursday the Herald spoke to Peter Dick, DA councillor for Ward 9 regarding the state of the road and the issue of trucks when entering Randfontein.

Dick said that he and Ellik de Lange, DA councillor for Ward 6, had brought these problems to the attention of the relevant people, which were then handed over to the Rand West City Local Municipality.

The first problem is the large trucks parked illegally on municipal grounds. Signage businesses pay for are also damaged by the trucks.

Secondly, Homestead Avenue into Randfontein from the R28 has caused various problems. There have been several accidents on the road, and in some cases vehicles have crashed into town houses. It is also very narrow and the gravel on its surface makes for an accident waiting to happen, said Dick.

A stop sign at the first intersection is also hanging by a tread. People unfamiliar with the area will not know they are supposed to stop there, which could be fatal. There is a large pothole that can cause an accident and the road running across the bridge is also in a terrible state,” Dick said.

The next intersection is also a problem, a reliable source told the Herald. The source said that on Monday morning (17 July), ER24 was attending to an accident there again, just because motorists do not stop.

Dick said he had seen a parking lot for the trucks was being tarred, but he could not tell how long it would take to complete.
