On Sunday, 11 March, four males were arrested for an armed robbery which was committed in the park next to the Kloof Country Club.
At approximately 1.30pm, the complainant and his friend were robbed of cellphones and cash by a group of five perpetrators.
“It is alleged that one of suspects drew a firearm, pointed it at the victims and searched them. They took the victims’ cellphones and cash,” said Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, spokesperson for the Westonaria Police.
The victims managed to flag down a patrolling Westonaria police vehicle in the area and reported the matter.
A short while later, four of the suspects were arrested by Sergeant Pamela Zweni and Constable Lesdi Segale. The two stolen cellphones and one firearm magazine were found in the possession of the suspects.
” All four suspects were detained at the Westonaria Police Station,” addedWarrant Officer Sebonyane.
The docket was allocated to detective Constable Motlokwa Rapola and through intensive investigation the fifth suspect, who is a minor, was arrested on 13 March and released into the supervision of his guardian.
All the suspects appeared briefly in the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 13 March, where the case was postponed until 26 March.
The station commander at the Westonaria station, Colonel Selvan Moonsamy, welcomed the arrests and applauded the members for a job well done .
“Our primary objective is to enforce the law and we will do exactly that,” he said.
