Get to know a ‘Teiner #67 — Japie Rebb

The 67th person in the Herald's Get to know a Randfonteiner project introduces himself.

Meet Japie Rebb, our Teiner of the Week. The Greenhills resident dedicates his time to ensure that everything in the parking areas in the suburb is in order.

The 61-year-old Japie said he has only been a car guard for three weeks, and thus far he likes his job.

“It is something I enjoy, even though the money is not much. What I really like about my job is that many people are friendly towards me because they appreciate what I do,” Japie said.

He said he plants vegetables at his home to supplement the little he makes as a car guard, although he appreciates and is always grateful for a every coin people spare him.

“In the olden days I used to work as a miner; unfortunately I was one of the people who were retrenched. So far as a car guard I love the role I play to local motorists and I believe that what I do is important.”

Among his other interests, Japie said, are fishing and watching rugby on TV while relaxing at home.
