Meet country singer Theresa Küpper

The Herald recently met Theresa Küpper, 51, a country singer of note. She strives to keep country music alive.
“I sing since being a little girl – in choirs and at singing competitions,” said Theresa, who has been living in Randfontein for 18 years. She is married to Skippie Ernst Küpper, and they have three children.
After being a nurse at a local hospital for 31 years, she chose a different career which she now pursues full-time, but said music is her escape.
Theresa’s daughter, Claudia Küpper, also has a huge talent and performs in Randfontein and Krugersdorp. She has released one CD, called Onthou my and is working on the next one, which will be called Country Flames.
Theresa’s favourite song is Medals for mothers. In addition to her booked performances she sings at at weddings and many charity events – mostly for the benefit of cancer patients, the elderly and children.
She loves Barbara Ray, and some even call her Randfontein se Barbara Ray. She fears that country music will lose popularity and fade away.
Theresa said unfortunately, karaoke events are not the same anymore as it has become more of a competition, so they as a family sing karaoke at home.
Her message to the community is to always use the gift you received, otherwise one day you will regret it.
