#Women’sMonth: Get your pink tutu ready
Women are encouraged to wear pink at this year's Totalsports Women’s Race on 9 August.
The women participating in #RunUnited at the Totalsports Women’s Race in support of PinkDrive will paint the streets of Johannesburg pink on National Women’s Day.
Women are encouraged to wear pink to this event as their goal is to raise awareness of breast cancer while spreading the message that ‘Early detection saves lives’.
According to Meagan Davids, PinkDrive Mammographer (Athlone), the event gives women a platform on which to join the conversation about breast cancer awareness.
“They have the opportunity to share stories while motivating and encouraging one another to be tested and to be aware of any changes in their body,” Meagan said.
The PinkDrive will provide free clinical breast examinations during the event, giving all participants the opportunity to be screened. Last year, 338 clinical breast examinations were done, and fortunately, there were no referrals.
The PinkDrive is a non-profit company that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education on the importance of self-examination, and providing and offering free services like breast examinations to the medically uninsured across South Africa.
The 2018 Totalsports Women’s Race will take place at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown on Thursday, 9 August.
