Six injured, two critical in weekend crash

Weekend crash on the R28 in Randfontein left six people injured.

Six people were injured, two critically, when a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a light motor vehicle collided on the R28 in Randfontein on Sunday, 10 September.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson said when paramedics and other emergency services arrived at the scene at 9.50pm, they found the SUV on the side of the road, while the light motor vehicle was found on the opposite side against a lamp post.

“The male driver of the SUV was lying outside his vehicle in a critical condition. One woman was lying inside the light motor vehicle, also in a critical condition. Four others were lying outside, with injuries ranging from minor to moderate,” Meiring said.

He said paramedics immediately began to treat the victims and provided the two critically injured with advanced life support interventions.

“Once treated, they were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Three victims, all with minor injuries, were transported privately to a nearby hospital. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” Meiring added.
