Man wanted for attempted rape

Wanted: Police ID person of interest in attempted rape case in Bekkersdal.

The Carletonville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit has released an identity kit of a suspect wanted in connection with an attempted rape case in the Tambo section of Bekkersdal in April.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersal Police spokesperson said the victim was allegedly asleep at her place when she was awoken by a banging sound on her door.

“She saw an unknown man holding an object in his hand. He grabbed her and instructed her not to scream. He then dragged her outside with the intention to take her to another shack, but the victim managed to free herself and ran for help. The suspect fled the scene on foot.”

Lefakane added the matter had been reported to the police and a case was registered.

“The victim could only identify the suspect by means of an identity kit. She said he was speaking Sotho and Tsonga, is approximately 1,7m tall, of slender build and has a dark in complexion. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black pants and had a blanket over his shoulder. He also had earrings on both ears.”
