Police embark on #SaferSchool campaign

Learners searched and various topics discussed during a #SaferSchool awareness campaign at two Randfontein schools.

The Randfontein Police conducted a #SaferSchool awareness campaign at Rand View College and Hoƫrskool Riebeeckrand on Tuesday, 11 and Wednesday, 12 February.

The campaign was led by the Randfontein Police’s Social Crime Prevention Unit accompanied by members of the Community Policing Forum.

Constable Portia Mabala of the Unit said about 270 learners were searched.

“We addressed topics that included the importance of attending school, bullying, gangsterism, drugs and substance abuse, theft, carrying of dangerous weapons, vandalism, impact of having a criminal record, the importance of discipline and respect towards teachers, human trafficking, gender-based violence/ domestic violence, sexual offences and ‘blessers’.

“Afterwards we conducted a stop-and-search in the Randfontein CBD,” Constable Mabala concluded.
