Police make 138 arrests in weekend operation

Those arrested were linked to a variety of crimes including murder, rape, drunken driving, possession of illegal substances and more.

Police made a total of 138 arrests for various crimes across the West Rand District this past weekend in yet another major operation.

According to Linkie Lefakane, the West Rand District and Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, those arrested were linked to a variety of crimes including murder, rape, fraud, drunken driving, illegal mining, possession of gold-bearing materials, assault, theft, malicious damage to property, possession of unlicensed firearm, attempted motor vehicle theft, housebreaking and theft, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of illegal substances and dangerous weapons, and undocumented immigrants.

All arrested suspects will appear in their respective magistrates’ courts around the District.
