A suspected armed robber was shot dead in an apparent shoot-out with security at a retail store in Edwards Avenue in the Westonaria CBD on Wednesday morning, 14 October.
Although local police are yet to release an official statement, Eugene Potgieter, managing director of the security company Gladiator Community Protection, said they responded to a panic alarm after 10am of an alleged armed robbery at a retail store in progress.
“Our response officer responded to a panic alarm and as he parked his vehicle and walked towards the retail store a group of armed men came storming out and started shooting at him. He then exchanged fire,” Potgieter said.
