Lindelane Buthelezi, 20, has been sentenced in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 12 October to eight years in prison after being found guilty of murder.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, Buthelezi was also convicted for attempted murder.
He was further declared unfit to posses a firearm. The sentencing was in connection with an incident on 7 December 2017 in which one person died,” Lefakane said.
“The accused disappeared and had been on the run until he was arrested on 4 August 2019. He was denied bail and remained in custody until his sentencing.”
Lieutenant Colonel Boitumelo Sigwili, detective commander for the Bekkersdal Police also praised police and the prosecution team for ensuring that the case was well investigated and professionally finalised.
