Busted for stealing railway tracks

The men who are aged between 25 and 28 were nabbed during a police operation in the area

Four men were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, 28 October for stealing railway tracks in Zuurbekom.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the men who are aged between 25 and 28 were nabbed during a police operation in the area.

“When the police became aware of a suspicious blue truck, the driver suddenly brought it to a halt. Three men who were on the back of the truck jumped off and ran,” Lefakane said.

After a short chase, the police managed to catch the men. They discovered that the truck was loaded with cut railway tracks and the equipment they used when they committed the crime.

“Police also discovered that the truck was carrying an oxygen gas cutter, and rings of railway track enforcement. The four suspects are scheduled to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon,” Lefakane added.
