Police investigate two alcohol-related deaths over weekend

The police are asking anyone who might have been at the bar at the time of the incident to come forward with any information.

Two men lost their lives in two separate incidents in Carletonville on Sunday, 1 November.

According to Warrant Officer Peter Masooa, the West Rand District Police spokesperson, the Carletonville Police were called to a hospital in the area early that morning where a man had succumbed to his injuries.

Masooa said the victim, a 27-year-old, was assaulted at a bar while drinking. He sustained deep lacerations to his right arm and was bleeding. He was then taken to a hospital in Carletonville and later transferred to another hospital.

“Police are following up on some leads which may lead to an arrest/ arrests.”

The police are asking anyone who might have been at the bar at the time of the incident to come forward with any information.

Later that morning, in a separate incident, a man was found stuck under a fence.

According to Warrant Officer Masooa, the victim had sustained wounds to his head and was declared dead at the scene. No suspects have been arrested as yet.

”Liquor played a part in both these murders. We urge those who use liquor or visit drinking venues/ places to take care and know when enough is enough. Also report any unlawful activity,” said Masooa.
