Cable thieves arrested at mine

The two suspects appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 3 October

Two men were arrested by Sibanye Security for cable theft at the number six shaft in East Driefontein on Sunday, 1 November.

According to Warrant Officer Peter Masooa, the West Rand District Police spokesperson, the security control room sent a message to the patrol vehicle to attend to suspicious people at the number six shaft.

“The security personnel spotted two men who immediately dropped an object and ran away. The two were arrested and cut cable was found,” said Masooa.

The two suspects appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 3 October.

“Theft of copper cables is destroying the economy of our town, and poses a threat to the essential services, such as hospitals,” he said.

”We thank the security personnel for working with us and bringing the criminals to book,” said Brigadier Marinda Theron, the Carletonville Police station commander.
