Bekkersdal and Westonaria Police have joined efforts to launch a 2020 Safer Festive Season Operation on the R28 between their jurisdictions on Friday morning, 20 November.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said with the year nearing its end, police took the initiative to educate and warn the public about crime.

Lefakane said during the operation all road users were stopped and searched at the roadblock.

“We are also giving them tips on being on the right side of the law; we also pleaded with them to avoid drinking and driving, because the consequences of such irresponsible behaviour will be harsh punishment,” Lefakane said.

Lefakane went on to say that those found with drugs or illegal weapons will be made to face the full might of the law.
