How to stay fit this festive season

Marlien intends to keep fit by doing a few simple things.

Professional dancer and instructor, Marlien van Deventer, 31, said although she intends to enjoy herself this Christmas, staying in shape and healthy is just as important to her.

While many will be tempted to over-indulge when switching off during this period, Marlien advised to keep one’s health in mind as well. She said by putting aside just 10 minutes every morning or afternoon, one can remain fit.

Firstly, Marlien said she is very lucky to live on a plot as the space will allow her to take walks, for example, and get her blood pumping.

I’m not a big fan of running but I will at least walk. One can do various cardio exercises as well. I also have all the apps I need on my phone to help me monitor the level of my fitness,” Marlien said.

She added that by continuously exercising this festive season, it will make it much easier for her when activities resume in January – unlike when one has to start from scratch and getting into the routine of working out.

She said although it’s important to stay in shape and be healthy, she believes that Christmas is also a time to rest.

“Your body can only take so much, especially this year! We’ve all gone through a lot. I feel much more drained than usual, but hopefully I will restore my energy and come back stronger when the new year starts,” Marlien said.

“I wish everybody a blessed festive season,” she concluded.
