Municipality loses councillor to Covid-19

Mayor reminded the mourners about the reality of the Covid-19 pandemic, and emphasised the importance of wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and avoiding crowded events and places.

Mohlakeng councillor, Jacob Mabaso Marite, 51, has died in the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital after contracting Covid-19 in early January.

An emotional send-off was held by the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) for the 51-year-old called the ‘Son of Mohlakeng’ at the Greenhills Cemetery on Thursday, 14 January.

During the funeral service, RWCLM Executive Mayor, Brenda Mahuma said they were united in grieving the loss of a comrade and a leader who dedicated his life to serving the community of Mohlakeng in various ways.

The mayor also reminded the mourners about the reality of the Covid-19 pandemic, and emphasised the importance of wearing masks that cover the nose and mouth, maintaining social distancing, and avoiding crowded events and places.

We all have a responsibility to curb the spread of the virus,” Mahuma said.

Maboso, as he was popularly known, will be remembered as a hustler, a go-getter and a humorous person.

The Executive Mayor went on to extend her heartfelt condolences to the Marite family, friends, his political party and the community.
