Sivumile Tokwana, 33, has been sentenced in the Palm Ridge High Court to 15 years earlier this week for the murder of Babongile Ncanywa.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the 25-year-old Ncanywa was stabbed during a fight at a local tavern on 22 February 2020. He was rushed to a local clinic but there he succumbed to his injuries.
“His co-accused, Sibusiso Mnuka, 36, was charged with assault relating to the incident, but he was only sentenced to four months in prison,” Lefakane said.
Following an intense investigation, the two suspects were arrested and denied bail, until the matter was referred to the High Court.”
Colonel Phumelele Matamela, the Bekkersdal Police station commander has praised the justice system for ensuring that the perpetrators were brought to book.
