Man shot in cold blood for cellphone, laptop

Randfontein Police confirmed that a man – the second in less than two weeks – was shot and killed for a cellphone and other belongings in Ten Acres on Wednesday morning.

A man was shot and killed during an early morning robbery on Seventh Street, Ten Acres on Wednesday, 10 March.

Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, the Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed the victim was still alive when a passer-by found him on the side of the road. He told the community member that the robbers who had shot him, also took his cellphone and laptop.

Unfortunately, by the time the ambulance arrived the victim had died. All we can confirmed at this stage is that he was shot,” Hendricks said.

The news came less than two weeks after the 47-year-old Toy Mienie was shot and killed while his 52-year-old wife, Annatjie was wounded during a robbery on Venterspos Road in Westonaria early on Friday, 26 February. The incident occurred as the couple were on their way to collect SASSA money. According to police, the robbers pointed a firearm at the victims and demanded cellphones and money. They took Toy’s cellphone, shot both victims and fled the scene on foot.
