Greenhills service station still not operational – will it ever be?

The Sasol service station on the corner of Kenneth Road and Falcon Street in Greenhills has been a concern for more than a year. The question is, when will it be operational?
The Herald reported on the promises made about the service station on 9 January 2020, which were that construction was about to start soon and would take three to six months to complete. However, those promises were empty.

It has been more than 15 months and the service station remains barricaded, with no sign of any work being done.
The Herald followed up on the matter to find out what was really going on, and why it remained basically abandoned.
Matebello Motloung, Group Media Relations Manager at Sasol, said they were aware of the situation and have been working on the administrative processes to ensure that all the legal requirements are met before the site becomes fully operational.
She said the pandemic had been disrupting the required processes in the last twelve months, which has had an adverse effect on site preparation, and they were facing significant timeline delays.
“We can confirm that the team has engaged with the new retailer, and the site will be attended to as a matter of urgency as soon as all the legalities and licences are in place,” said Motloung.
One can only wait and see if construction will be starting anytime soon at the abandoned site of the proposed revamped Sasol service station.
