WATCH: Roads closed, damage to property reported in early morning protest

The situation has since been brought under control, police say

Randfontein Police have confirmed the early-morning protest in Wheatlands on Monday, 3 May leaving Lazar Avenue and Road 6 closed.

According to Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, residents were demanding RDP houses constructed in the nearby development, among other things.

“We believe the protest started between 3am and 4am. They blocked the roads with burning tyres and logs. In the process, they damaged windows of a nearby property called Dantlome Flats, and also damaged some of the TLB equipment,” Hendricks said.
