Close to 100 arrested in Okae Molao operation on the far West Rand

Police in the West Rand District recently held an Okea Moloa operation on the far West Rand. They arrested 99 people and issued over R35 000 worth of fines.

Ninety-nine suspects were arrested during another Okea Moloa operation, this time in Wedela and Fochville on Thursday, 3 June.

Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, the Randfontein Police spokesperson said suspects were arrested for the offences of murder (one); armed robbery (five); assault (19); theft (16); housebreaking (one); drug possession (two); possession of stolen property (three); drunk driving (one); abduction (one); dealing in dagga; selling liquor without a licence, and undocumented foreign nationals.

“A total of 35 traffic fines to the value of R35 200 were issued, and 88 170ml of liquor were confiscated. Gold-bearing material in 20 litre buckets were also discovered,” Hendricks said.

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner thanked all law-enforcement agencies for their effort in combating crime to help keep the community safe.

“We will continue to stamp our authority as the state to ensure that law and order is maintained within the West Rand District,” Kekana added.

All the suspects are expected to appear before different Magistrates’ Courts soon.
