Mapogo crime report: Seven incidents – From assault to housebreaking

Mapogo released its latest crime report for the period from June 28 to July 4 – from armed robbery in Randfontein CBD to housebreaking and theft in Greenhills.

It was a busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security with several incidents occurring in Randfontein.

Ben Willemse, operations manager at Mapogo, said seven incidents were reported for their client base for the period from Monday, June 28 to Sunday, July 4.

A breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Monday, June 28 at 06:50  Housebreaking and theft, Convent Street, Greenhills. Intruders forced open burglar bars of the bathroom during the evening, and stole an electricity extension cord.

• Monday, June 28 at 17:49 – Armed robbery, Main Road, Randfontein. Armed robbers walked into the store and held up the owner at gunpoint. They fled the scene with cellphones and cash.

• Thursday, July 1 at 12:08 – Assault, Main Road, Tenacres. Attackers assaulted the owner whilst attempting to sell scrap metal to him.

• Friday, July 2 at 14:40 – Attempted housebreaking, Honeybird Street, Helikon Park. Intruders forced open the safety gate and door, and when the alarm was activated they fled the scene.

• Friday, July 2 at 18:44 – Housebreaking and arrest, Constance Avenue, Homelake. Intruders attempted to break in and were caught by one of the tenants.

• Friday, July 2 at 19:50 – Theft, Dwarskloof Plots. The owner of the premises contacted Mapogo and informed them that the occupants of a minibus taxi stole pigs from his premises and fled the scene.

• Sunday, July 4 at 11:40 – Attempted housebreaking, Beatrice Street, Homelake. The intruders attempted to force open the security gate during the evening.

Ben stated that they continuously focus on pro-active visibility and crime prevention throughout the Randfontein areas.

When not at home ensure that your alarm system is fully armed and in a good working order. Ensure adequate lights on your premises as criminals prefer dark corners. The dark assists them not to be detected or disturbed whilst performing their criminal acts,” explained Willemse.
