Six serious incidents in Randfontein this week – Mapogo

Mapogo released its latest crime report for the period from July 26 to August 1 – from a theft to assault in Homelake.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security with numerous incidents being reported in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said six incidents were reported for their client base for the period Monday, July 26 to Sunday, August 1.

A breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Tuesday, July 27 at 04:22 – Theft of motor vehicle, Willem Street, Greenhills. Thieves lifted the complex gate to gain entry and stole a VW Polo from one of the units inside the complex.

• Tuesday, July 27 at 12:35 – Theft, Stubbs Street, Randfontein CBD. Mapogo officers assisted a non-client who reported that two thieves had stolen a radio and speakers from his shop.

• Tuesday, July 27 at 15:07 – Housebreaking and theft, Village Street, Randfontein CBD. Intruders gained entry into the premises by climbing over a side wall. They forced open the garage, stole items from the owner’s caravan, and fled the scene.

• Thursday, July 29 23:15 – Assault, David Street, Homelake. The neighbour requested assistance, and on arrival Mapogo officers found one intruder who gained entry onto the property by climbing over the palisade fence. The owner noticed him and confronted him, and the intruder attacked him with a garden fork. The intruder was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.

• Thursday, July 29 at 13:33 – Theft, Homestead Avenue, Homelake. On arrival at the premises the Mapogo officers was informed that two people had walked into the business, stole a cellphone and left the premises.

• Sunday, August 1 at 20:34 – Damage to property, Meyer Katz Street, West Porges. A driver lost control of his vehicle and drove into barriers covering a vehicle dealership. The driver received medical attention on the scene, and further steps will be taken by the police who attended the scene.

Willemse gave the following crime-prevention tips:

• Make your home look occupied – leave some lights and a radio on when you’re out.
• Lock your doors – never leave your house open for just a moment; always lock your doors when you’re out.
• Ensure that you inform your neighbours and friends when you are away from home for a prolonged period.
