Westgold boasts numerous sport achievements, makes history

'It's the first time in Westgold history that we have two Lions coaches' – school spokesperson.

Laerskool Westgold Primary School is not just over the moon because sport could resume, but they are proud of their recent achievements.

For starters, school spokesperson Mariska du Plessis said in July, their acting principal, Christo Hugo, was chosen as a coach for the Golden Lions U/13 Craven Week team, while one of their Heads of Department, Rudolph de Bruyn was selected as a coach for the Golden Lions U/12B rugby team.

“It’s the first time in Westgold history that we have two Lions coaches,” said Mariska.

In August, Ruan Pieterse, Les Eksteen and Bennie Beyleveld were chosen as coaches out of all the schools in the West Rand to coach various West Rugby teams.

“Thabo Matale was the only boy in our school to be chosen for the U/12 Lions rugby team in June. He played two games against the Blue Bulls – one at Loftus Versfeld and one at Noordheuwel – and his team performed very well.”
