Westcol holds award ceremony – its first in two years

More than 100 students of Westcol's Randfontein campus were rewarded for their 2020/21 academic performance.

A total of 115 students of Westcol’s Randfontein campus were rewarded for their 2020/ 21 academic performance at an award ceremony on Thursday March 31.

According to Westcol Randfontein campus spokesperson Salome du Toit, due to Covid-19 restrictions of the past two years, the annual award ceremony could only be held in 2022.

We couldn’t host functions like this for our students, but each and every campus will be hosting the award ceremony now. The purpose of the ceremony is awarding all students based on the results of their final examinations in the last two years,” Salome said.

According to Thandeka Swelinkomo, coordinator of the award ceremony, 29 National Certificate Vocational; 45 Business Management; and 41 Engineering students were awarded at the ceremony.

“Students had to achieve an average of 75 per cent or above for all their subjects to qualify for the certificate.

“We’d like to congratulate all those who got recognition, and thank our sponsor such as Helikopark Pick n Pay, South African Airways and Manake Funeral Funeral Directors.

We had five trophies for overall achievers. The trophies were designed and sponsored by our former student Thabang Phokojoe, who’s now a manager at SAA, after he had requested the airline to sponsor Westcol,” Thandeka said.
