Man sought in Mohlakeng rape case

WANTED: Police ID person of interest in rape case in Mohlakeng.

The Randfontein Police have launched a manhunt for a man wanted for rape in Mohlakeng last month.

This after a 23-year-old woman was raped in an open veld in Mohlakeng at about 04:15 on Saturday April 16. An identity kit of the suspect was then released.

Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks explained the victim had been walking from a friend’s place in Madala Hostel and when she got home, she knocked on the door. While waiting for her mother to open, an unknown man suddenly appeared with a firearm.

He forced her to go with him and told her not to scream. When they got to the veld he instructed her to undress and lie down. He then raped her and told her to run and not look back,” Sergeant Hendricks said.

The victim ran back home and reported the matter to her mother who took her to the police where a case of rape was opened immediately, and an identity kit of the suspect was subsequently released.

“Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect can contact Randfontein Police on 011 414 4992, or the investigating officer of the Child Protection Unit, detective Constable Letshoena on 011 951 1729, or Crime Stop line 08600 10111. You may also use the SMS line 32211 or provide information via the My SAPS app and remain anonymous,” Sergeant Hendricks said.
