Two youngsters nabbed with illegal firearm and ammo

After following up on a tip-off, police and CPF found the live ammunition under a mattress.

Two suspects were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm in the Tambo informal settlement on Saturday May 21.

According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the suspects aged 21 and 24 were nabbed during a partnership with the CPF who were following up on a tip-off.

The members swiftly responded to the information and managed to find the suspects in a shack where an unlicensed firearm and several live rounds of ammunition were hidden under a mattress,” said Sergeant Lefakane.

Bekkersdal Police station commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela commended the community for giving the police information about the suspects, and said this shows that people are supporting the police in the fight against crime.

Sergeant Lefakane said both suspects are expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
