Girls and Boys Town receive some love

They planted 200 plants to teach children about the environment.

Girls and Boys Town South Africa’s (GBTSA) Kagiso Campus was recently the recipient of an outpouring of goodwill in honour of Mandela Day.

Over and above donations from Strategic Water Partners Network, Nepad Business Foundation, McCain Foods, Dis-Chem, Lasher Tools, Pam Golding Properties and others, various dignitaries paid a visit, including Minister of Small Business Development, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and Rand West City Local Municipality Executive Mayor Gladys Khosa.

McCain Foods donated blankets, sanitary towels and seedlings, Pam Golding Properties donated trees, Lasher Tools donated the gardening implements that were used on the day, and Dis-Chem donated cosmetics and hygiene products for girls and boys. Individual persons also made donations to the facility.

According to Lena Luh of Pam Golding Properties, who undertook to plant 200 plants along the perimeter wall of the campus, the initiative was chosen because, “Green is the colour of the company and we are hoping that it will instil a sense of caring in the children and that it will fuel their love of the environment”.

GBTSA’s brand ambassador Miss Pre-Teen SA Hlonela Njongwe was also in attendance.
