Jessie-Alara was found on August 21 at a business premises in Aureus. According to No More Tears Animal Rescue volunteer Clarisse Kruger, her condition was heartbreaking.
She suffered from severe malnutrition and had deep lacerations on her face. Clarisse explained that her ear was nearly ripped off, and the wound had already started to rot.
While rescuing Jessie-Alara, director Stephan Hendricks observed she was not aggressive at all. Instead, she wagged her tail at everyone, including the dog on the property. She was immediately taken to the vet for treatment.
On September 1, the Randfontein Herald reported Jessie-Alara’s story.
“We may never know what she’s been through, but we do know one thing: Jessie deserves a second chance.
Letting her go would have been the easier choice, but her gentle spirit made it clear she wants to live, recover, and experience love,” Clarisse said.
Although Jessie-Alara’s story began tragically, her recovery was swift, and her requests for adoption increased. Many lined up to adopt her, but ultimately, Hendry Hellerle was deemed the most suitable candidate.
Clarisse highlighted how Hendry and his family visited Jessie-Alara every day while she was still recovering at the vet. This daily contact fostered an unbreakable bond between them, leading to the final decision to give Jessie her forever home.
On October 11, the Hellerle family, accompanied by their dog Max, arrived at the Randfontein Animal Hospital to take Jessie-Alara home.
“We are so happy to finally adopt her. She will receive the love she truly deserves from someone who understands her,” Hendry said joyfully.
This marked a moment of great satisfaction for No More Tears, who had worked tirelessly to save Jessie-Alara.
Many people advised us to put her down because saving her seemed too unlikely. But we followed our motto, which is to give every animal a second chance at life,” one of the directors at No More Tears, Riana Cronje, said.
