Alleged screwdriver killing of schoolboy sparks protest

Residents protested outside the Toekomsrus Police Station after a *15-year-old boy was stabbed to death while allegedly waiting for his school bus.

Angry community members gathered at the Toekomsrus Police Station after a schoolboy was stabbed to death allegedly with a screwdriver this morning, August 22, while waiting for his school bus.

The Randfontein Herald arrived at the police station, where about 200 residents had gathered in protest following the incident.

Well-known community member Rashida Abrahams told the Herald the child’s body was discovered in front of a local shop where learners are usually collected.

“We saw the child’s body. His school clothes were covered in blood, and his body had multiple stab wounds from a screwdriver,” Abrahams said.

She added that the incident must have happened early this morning.

Abrahams also said the attack is gang-related and voiced frustration over ongoing crime in the area.

“We are tired of seeing children murdered. This boy was on his way to school, and now he will never return home,” she said.

She also expressed concern for the safety of young people, noting that this is not the first time a child has been killed.

“The children who witnessed the attack now have to live with this trauma. Many are too afraid to even walk home,” she added.

The Herald approached Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, who acknowledged the enquiry, but no official response was available at the time of publication. Feedback will be published once received.
